john stezaker

On sunday I went to the Whitechapel Gallery to see the exhibition from british artist John Stezaker.
I liked so much,
i didn't know him before but I was mesmerized by
his surrealistic manipulation of icon and landscapes images.

From the exhibition catalogue:

"British artist John Stezaker is fascinated by the lure of images. Taking classic movie stills, vintage postcards and book illustrations, Stezaker makes collages to give old images a new meaning. By adjusting, inverting and slicing separate pictures together to create unique new works of art, Stezaker explores the subversive force of found images.

This first major exhibition of John Stezaker offers a chance to see work by an artist whose subject is the power in the act of looking itself. With over 90 works from the 1970s to today, the artist reveals the subversive force of images, reflecting on how visual language can create new meaning."

emerald uhhh

ok,
the idea was
"uooo let's dye JUST the roots in emerald green, so I can have Tie-dye hair, green and pink!"

but when we washed away the colour it took 10 seconds to it to dye all of my head.
Immediately

I don't know why, but

Pink
rest in peace

we'll see what will happen when i'll wash them again.

valentine's day

this is what we did to celebrate valentine's day,
in the absence of a formal partner
we tried to invent love
with fantasy and improvised outfits.

maybe it was just an excuse to go out for dinner

icons of my imagination

I have an obsession with sacred art,
icons of saints, gods and mythology.

I know that every church/cathedral/abbey I visit abroad always seems boring,
this is probably what it happens when
you are born and raised in Italy, I supposed.
But churches in the North of Europe have great stained glasses,
which I love so much.
I love the bright colour and the light reflections on the floors,
and those ways to capture a
scene with a timeless stillness,
fixing a moment of emotional or narrative climax,
these images become
like a pop image that you might find on a poster,
or
a snapshot of a music video
.

this image has been taken at Victoria&Albert musuem, though.
Which is a magic and HUGE place to visit. Loved it.

the year of the rabbit

on the 3rd of February London Chinatown (Leicester, Trafalgar, Shaftesbury Ave.) celabrated the Chinese New Year.
It was a complete mess, a huge crowd of people moving in the same direction so slowly and so pushed, just to follow a cheesy chinese dragon.

Awful.

Sunday we went to the Barbican to see the Japanese Fashion Exhibition.
I've never been at Barbican before, and I fell in love with this huge art space,
it's so big and so interesting, I felt relaxed and stimulated to discover new things.
By the Way I never liked japanese fashion designer, but I really enjoyed the exhibition
and I found touching the poetry and point of view of the work and life of Yojhi Jamamoto,
designer who I knew before but never deepen his work and language.

london art fair

last week we went to the London Art Fair, Where more than 1000 galleries from London exhibit the best of the artists they rappresent.
It's a fair for the ones who want to buy art.

and these are the pieces I liked the most:
Lisa Swerling

Charlotte Cory "Brighton Rabbits"

Jayoon Choi (my favorite perhaps)

David Begbie "unud I"

Nathan Ford

Jonathan Huxley "Figurescape"

Lynn Chadwick "Sitting Couple"

Veronica Bailey "Perfect Target"

Gary Anderson "Princess and the Pea"

Gavin Nolan

Gavin Tremlett

Rob and Nick Carter "Volcano"

Grayson Perry "The Walthamstow Tapestry"

upper Street, Islington
